BEYOND THE SCROLL

The Power of Preparation (Part 2)

In last week’s Scroll, I shared one of the hardest seasons of my life. Right before Covid hit, my daughter was diagnosed with a rare disease. The outlook was bleak.

Her body wasn’t responding to any of the treatments. Surgeries, infusions, injections — nothing worked. Eventually, even her doctor stopped seeing her because there was nothing else she could do. For about six months, we were completely on our own.

Then one day, out of the blue, I got a call that changed everything.

My daughter’s old doctor had left, and a new doctor had just taken over her patients. The new doctore had reviewed my daughter’s file and wanted to see her.

I was happy but cautious. So we went to see the new doctor who, of course, ordered a new round of bloodwork and tests.  Much to our surprise, my daughter’s numbers had improved - dramatically.

I was stunned but didn’t want to get too excited.  Month after month, the doctor ordered bloodwork for my daughter and each time the numbers steadily decreased.  As a result, the doctor kept decreasing her medications and then one day she took my daughter completely off all her medication.  I cannot express the disbelief and joy we had on that day.

Now my daughter show no signs or symptoms of her disease.  It’s almost as if it never happened.

I don’t know why happened to my daughter. I don’t know why she got sick or why she recovered.  I just am thankful for all those amazing doctors and more so thankful for this amazing blessing from my lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

I guess I am thinking about all this because my daughter left for college this month and it hit me just how far she’s come.

I felt a mix of pride, joy, and a little disbelief when she packed up to move into the dorms because when she was very sick, I wasn’t sure what her future would look like. We had no guarantees. But with time, care, and preparation, she grew stronger. And today, she’s thriving on her own.

That experience reminded me of something every entrepreneur needs to hear: what you prepare for today will carry you through tomorrow.

Here’s how it connects to AI search:

  1. Early work compounds.
Just like years of doctor visits, medicine, and care prepared my daughter to thrive in college, the visibility work you do now compounds over time. When AI bots can read your site, they don’t forget you overnight — they keep pulling you into answers.

  2. Moments of uncertainty happen — but the groundwork holds.
Even if there are dips (a slow sales month, or AI updates that shake things up), the effort you put in early means your store still has a foundation AI can lean on. That’s what keeps you visible when it counts.

  3. Preparedness creates confidence.
I can breathe easier now knowing my daughter is okay, because we did the hard work before. The same peace of mind happens in business: when you’ve set up your site for AI visibility, you can trust that customers will find you — especially in Q4 when it matters most.

The lesson? You can’t control everything, but you can control how prepared you are. And the work you do early always pays off later.
