AEO: The New Strategy for Sucess in Q4 and Beyond

Last week, I shared how AI is quietly replacing Google search and how your July content directly affects your visibility in Q4.

This week, we’re digging deeper. Because if you’re still trying to get seen using SEO tactics from 2015… it’s time for an upgrade.

Let me introduce you to your new best friend:

AEO which stands for AI Engine Optimization.

SEO vs. AEO

For years, we’ve been told to focus on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). The holy grail was having your blog post or website land on page 1 of Google for a certain keyword or phrase. This entailed creating content using the right keywords, blog posts, and backlinks to get your content found on Google. And while that still matters for traditional search, the game is changing fast.

Now, people aren’t just Googling. They’re also asking ChatGPT, TikTok and Instagram what to buy, where to shop, and who to trust. And they actually trust souces like ChatGPT more than Google.

Why?

Because when you search for something in Google, it returns ads that people have paid to show you and whoever has most popular sites based on that search term. Then, you have to sift through the results to make the best decision.

Not so with ChatGPT.

If you ask ChatGPT for something, it will make a recommendation that’s best for your needs. Not return a list that you have to sift through and sort out like Google does.

So people are turning to ChatGPT and other AI tools more and more to search for products and services. This might be bad news for Google but it’s great news for us.

That’s where AEO comes in.  AEO is about making sure your content is clear, consistent, and easy for AI tools to understand and categorize. If the algorithm can’t figure out who you are or what you offer, you’ll be left out of their results, no matter how good your content is.

What is AEO?

Think of AEO as the evolution of SEO. Instead of optimizing for Google’s search algorithm, you’re optimizing your content for tools like:

  • ChatGPT

  • TikTok

  • Instagram Reels

  • Perplexity

  • Meta’s new AI-powered feeds

These tools aren’t just “searching.”
They’re categorizing, summarizing and recommending content based on how clearly and consistently you talk about your business.

If your message is muddy, scattered, or vague?
You’re invisible.

AEO in Action: A 3-Step Starter Plan

Want to start showing up in AI recommendations before Q4?

Here’s a simple 3-step process to start using AEO today:

Step 1: Be Repetitive, On Purpose

Repetition teaches the algorithm about who you are.
So post your top 3 keywords across all platforms over and over again.
Instagram bio, product titles, Reel captions, email subject lines … everywhere.

📝 Example:
Instead of saying “Shop now for fall favorites!”
Say: “Shop our fall-scented candles, perfect for cozy nights and early gifting.”

Step 2: Use Clear, Human-Sounding Language

AI understands natural, helpful content, not fluff.

❌ Not this: “You’ll love this.”
✅ Do this: “Our menopause mug makes the perfect gift for a friend with hot flashes and a sense of humor.”

Step 3: Make Everything Connect

AI likes clean, connected ecosystems.
Make sure your Instagram post leads to your product.
Your bio links to your offer.
Your captions match your content.

The more your content matches across platforms, the easier it is for AI to file and recommend you.
